Fees & Rebates

Fees for psychological services vary depending on the type of service requested. Please contact us by phoning 8883 4702 or email  office@abouttherapy.com.au for further information.

Private Health Fund Rebates
Most private Health Funds offer rebates for services by registered psychologists. Please consult your health fund for further information as rebates will only be available to members with the appropriate ancillary benefits. Referrals are generally not required.

We are a HICAPS service provider hence health fund claims can be processed on site after each consultation.

Medicare
Medicare benefits are available for a range of specified psychology services for people with certain conditions. To receive psychological services under Medicare you must be referred by your GP or in some cases your psychiatrist or paediatrician.

The Chronic Disease Management (CDM) - Allied Health and Dental Care initiative (previously known as Medicare Plus) assists people living with a chronic and/or complex medical condition by providing Medicare rebates for treatment from allied health professionals including psychologists who are assisting in managing the illness. This initiative allows a person with a chronic and/or complex illness to claim a Medicare rebate for up to five visits with allied health professionals within a calendar year. To be eligible to claim rebates under this initiative your GP is required to prepare a GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangements or an Enhanced Primary Care Multidisciplinary Care Plan.

The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS)  initiative (Better Access) provides assistance to people living with mental health problems by providing Medicare rebates for mental health care services provided by GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists and appropriately trained social workers and occupational therapists. This initiative allows a person with an assessed mental health condition to receive up to 12 individual services in a calendar year, with a review to the referring doctor required after the initial six services. To be eligible to claim rebates under this initiative your GP will need to complete a detailed mental health care assessment and prepare a Mental Health Care Plan before referring you to a mental health professional.

For further information on Medicare rebates contact the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing www.health.gov.au
